Iced Green Tea Latte

Iced Green Tea Latte

This Iced Green Tea Latte is a smooth and refreshing drink made with brewed green tea, chilled fresh milk, and a touch of sweetness. It is light, creamy, and easy to prepare at home perfect for warm days or a relaxing afternoon drink.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Brewing Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 1 large glass

Ingredients

  • 2 green tea bags or 2 teaspoons loose-leaf green tea

  • 120 ml hot water

  • 150 ml chilled fresh milk

  • 1–2 tablespoons honey, sugar, or simple syrup

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, optional

  • 1 cup ice cubes

  • 1–2 tablespoons evaporated milk or cream for topping, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat the water.
Heat the water until hot but not vigorously boiling. Allow freshly boiled water to cool for approximately 1–2 minutes before brewing.

  2. Brew the green tea.
Place the green tea bags or loose leaf tea in a heatproof cup. Pour in the hot water and steep for 2–3 minutes.

  3. Remove the tea.
Remove the tea bags or strain out the tea leaves. Do not steep for too long, as green tea can become bitter.

  4. Add the sweetener.
While the tea is still warm, add the honey, sugar, or simple syrup. Stir until completely dissolved.

  5. Cool the tea.
Allow the sweetened green tea to cool for approximately 5 minutes. For a colder drink, refrigerate it until fully chilled.

  6. Prepare the glass.
Fill a tall serving glass with ice cubes.

  7. Add the milk.
Pour the chilled fresh milk over the ice. Stir in the vanilla extract, if using.

  8. Add the green tea.
Slowly pour the cooled green tea over the milk to create a layered appearance.

  9. Add the topping.
Drizzle evaporated milk or cream over the top for a richer, cafe style finish, if desired.

  10. Serve.
Stir well before drinking and serve immediately while cold.

Matcha Green Tea Latte Variation

For a stronger cafe style green tea flavour, replace the brewed tea with:

  • 1–1½ teaspoons matcha powder

  • 60 ml hot water

Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl. Add the hot water and whisk until smooth and frothy. Sweeten it, then pour it over the iced milk.

Kift’s Tips

  • Do not use vigorously boiling water because it can make green tea taste bitter.

  • Brew the tea slightly stronger because the milk and ice will dilute its flavour.

  • Use chilled milk so the ice melts more slowly.

  • Adjust the sweetener according to your preferred sweetness.

  • Simple syrup dissolves more easily in cold drinks than granulated sugar.

  • Whole milk creates the creamiest result, but low fat milk also works.

  • Oat milk, soy milk, almond milk, or coconut milk can be used for a dairy-free version.

  • Add vanilla for a soft, cafe style flavour.

  • Chill the brewed tea before adding it to the ice for a stronger drink.

  • Pour the tea slowly over the milk to create attractive layers.

Storage Instructions

Iced Green Tea Latte is best enjoyed immediately after preparation.

The brewed and sweetened green tea can be stored separately in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

Add the milk and ice only when ready to serve.

Do not store the completed drink with ice because it will become diluted.
