Homemade Shaobing

Homemade Shaobing

Crispy on the outside, soft inside, and filled with savory minced chicken and vegetables. This homemade Shaobing is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a tasty snack.

Ingredients

For the dough

  • 450 g all-purpose flour
  • 20 g sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 315 ml warm water

For the filling

  • 65 g carrots, finely chopped
  • 72 g cabbage, finely chopped
  • 240 g minced chicken
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons oyster sauce
  • 10 g butter

Instructions

  1. Add the flour, sugar, and yeast to a large bowl.
  2. Slowly pour in the warm water while mixing.
  3. Knead until the dough becomes smooth and soft.
  4. Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Heat the butter in a pan over medium heat.
  6. Add the minced chicken and cook until it changes colour.
  7. Add the carrots and cabbage.
  8. Season with black pepper, salt, and oyster sauce.
  9. Cook until the vegetables soften and the filling is fully cooked. Set aside to cool.
  10. Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces.
  11. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten it into a circle.
  12. Place some filling in the centre.
  13. Fold the edges together and pinch tightly to seal.
  14. Gently flatten each filled dough ball.
  15. Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat.
  16. Cook each Shaobing until golden brown on both sides and cooked through.
  17. Serve warm.

Cook with Kift Tip

Cook over medium-low heat so the outside becomes crispy without burning before the inside is fully cooked. Do not overfill, or the Shaobing may open while cooking.
