Homemade Shaobing
Crispy on the outside, soft inside, and filled with savory minced chicken and vegetables. This homemade Shaobing is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a tasty snack.
Ingredients
For the dough
- 450 g all-purpose flour
- 20 g sugar
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 315 ml warm water
For the filling
- 65 g carrots, finely chopped
- 72 g cabbage, finely chopped
- 240 g minced chicken
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 3 teaspoons oyster sauce
- 10 g butter
Instructions
- Add the flour, sugar, and yeast to a large bowl.
- Slowly pour in the warm water while mixing.
- Knead until the dough becomes smooth and soft.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Heat the butter in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the minced chicken and cook until it changes colour.
- Add the carrots and cabbage.
- Season with black pepper, salt, and oyster sauce.
- Cook until the vegetables soften and the filling is fully cooked. Set aside to cool.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten it into a circle.
- Place some filling in the centre.
- Fold the edges together and pinch tightly to seal.
- Gently flatten each filled dough ball.
- Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat.
- Cook each Shaobing until golden brown on both sides and cooked through.
- Serve warm.
Cook with Kift Tip
Cook over medium-low heat so the outside becomes crispy without burning before the inside is fully cooked. Do not overfill, or the Shaobing may open while cooking.

Cooking time: 15 minutes
