Authentic Thai Fresh Milk Tea

Authentic Thai Fresh Milk Tea

Authentic Thai Fresh Milk Tea is a smooth, creamy, and refreshing drink made with strongly brewed Thai tea, fresh milk, and a touch of sweetness. It has the rich colour and distinctive flavour of classic Thai tea, but with a lighter and fresher milk taste.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Brewing Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 1 large glass

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Thai tea mix

  • 180 ml hot water

  • 120 ml fresh milk

  • 1–2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 tablespoon sugar, optional

  • 1 cup ice cubes

  • 1–2 tablespoons evaporated milk for topping, optional

Instructions

  1. Brew the Thai tea.
Place the Thai tea mix in a tea filter, strainer, or heatproof jug. Pour the hot water over the tea and allow it to steep for 5–7 minutes.

  2. Strain the tea.
Strain the brewed tea into a clean jug or glass, removing all the tea leaves.

  3. Sweeten the tea.
While the tea is still hot, add the sweetened condensed milk and sugar, if using. Stir until fully dissolved.

  4. Add the fresh milk.
Pour in the fresh milk and stir until the drink is evenly combined and creamy.

  5. Prepare the serving glass.
Fill a tall glass completely with ice cubes.

  6. Pour the milk tea.
Slowly pour the prepared Thai fresh milk tea over the ice.

  7. Add the topping.
Drizzle evaporated milk over the top for a richer, café-style finish.

  8. Serve.
Stir well before drinking and serve immediately while cold.

Kift’s Tips

  • Brew the tea slightly stronger than usual because the ice and milk will dilute the flavour.

  • Use authentic Thai tea mix for the traditional orange colour and aroma.

  • Adjust the condensed milk depending on how sweet you prefer the drink.

  • Use chilled fresh milk so the ice melts more slowly.

  • Whole milk gives the creamiest result, but low-fat milk can also be used.

  • For a dairy-free version, use oat milk, soy milk, or coconut milk.

  • For a stronger tea flavour, steep the tea for up to 10 minutes, but do not leave it too long or it may become bitter.

Storage Instructions

Thai Fresh Milk Tea is best enjoyed immediately after preparation.

The tea mixture can be stored without ice in a sealed bottle or container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

Shake or stir well before serving, as the milk may naturally separate.

Do not store the drink with ice because it will become diluted.
